Learn How to Make Craft Cocktails at Bar Dupont:
Bar Dupont’s “Shaken Nights” Cocktail Class Series is back for its 2nd annual run. The hands-on monthly classes led by general manager Chris McNeal will get started in May and run through November, with each month showcasing a different theme.
During each class, participants get to make three cocktails — and yes, you get to drink them, too — while also enjoying some light bites to go along with them. Classes are kept small and intimate, allowing McNeal to personally guide guests through the drinks, offering insight on technique and ingredients. He may also be supported by his bar team, including the bartenders who created a particular drink that’s being featured.
In May, Shaken Nights gets started with a Hawaii theme, so expect a tiki-heavy lineup along with other unique Hawaiian style ingredients, spirits and garnishes. In June, get your julep game going with a Triple Crown themed class. July will bring out your patriotic side with Independence Day and celebratory champagne-inspired cocktails, followed by an Endless Summer class in August, large format cocktails and punches in September, spooky Halloween drinks in October, and finally, Friendsgiving in November.
At a recent preview of the cocktail classes, guests made a classic Corpse Reviver #2, along with several house originals, the Dupont Tiki, and the Irish-American, an upgraded whiskey sour. A team of 10 each made the three drinks, with two glasses broken along the way, including one by yours truly — so it’s a good thing that these classes are a judgement free zone. Simply show up, make some drinks, learn a few things, and have a good time.
Tickets for each event are available here and cost approximately $70 per person. Events start at 7pm each evening and are slated for May 5th, June 2nd, July 7th, August 4th, September 1st, October 6th and November 3rd.
