The wide world of whiskey has taken me from DC to Virginia to Kentucky and back again in the past few months. Here’s a collection of some of my latest whiskey wonderings and wanderings.
At nearby Catoctin Creek, they have a new product ready to hit the market. It’s a four year old rye, the oldest they’ve ever released. I visited the team out in Purcellville, VA — and managed to sample some straight from the barrel.
I hit the American Whiskey Trail with DISCUS in May. There was certainly plenty of amazing whiskey drinking and touring, speaking with the likes of Chris Morris, Eddie Russell, Fred Noe, and Bill Samuels Jr. along the way. The result was a 3-part series on the state of American whiskey for Distiller.
- Part I takes us back to the history of American whiskey
- Part II looks at the industry today
- and Part III takes a peek at the future.
I’m also reviewing whiskeys for Distiller as well, including my first offering, Belle Meade’s Sherry Cask Finish Bourbon. Be sure to download the app to get Distiller’s reviews & recommendations on the move!
Plus, there’s been plenty to talk about on Eater with my latest whiskey stories there. That includes:
- The Comprehensive Beginners Guide to Whisk(e)y
- An Inside Look at Counterfeit Whiskey Across the Globe
- Examining No Age Statement (NAS) Whiskey
And when you’re interested in more than whiskey, then up your home bar game by utilizing these 10 unique liquors to know.
