Stanford Grill is now open in Rockville in the Tower Oaks complex off Wootton Parkway, at 2000 Tower Oaks Boulevard. The restaurant, which aims to offer a sophisticated, upscale-casual dining experience, had an opening party last weekend before having its official grand opening to the public this past Monday, September 28th.

Heading the team is executive chef Sean Kinoshita, who previously served in the same position at the Tao Asian Bistro in Las Vegas. He’s bringing a lineup of both American and Japanese dishes, with a focus on fresh ingredients, and a range of both traditional and more inventive fare.

Expect to find specialties such as seafood marinara, with sauteed shrimp and scallops in a light marinara sauce served over penne, Scottish salmon filleted in house and served with house-made chef’s dressing and tabbouleh, and French dip au jus, served on a house-made baguette with thinly sliced slow roasted prime rib. On the Japanese side, also expect to find a range of sushi rolls, including a battera style spicy tuna roll, with avocado, sashimi, wasabi, scallions, sriracha mayo and unagi sauce; a coconut shrimp roll with spicy masago mayo, crisp cucumber, avocado and pea sprouts; and a yellowtail jalapeno roll,  a savory bundle of yellowtail, jalapeno, wasabi and cilantro.

The restaurant’s open kitchen and bakery allows diners the chance to take a glimpse behind the scenes. Kinoshita is joined there by head baker Christian Haug, formerly a pastry chef for Swiss Bakery and Praline Bakery, and general manager Patrick Desotelle, who has been a GM at noted DC institutions such as Le Diplomate and Zaytinya. Haug’s key lime pie, bread pudding and seasonal cheesecakes will spearhead the dessert lineup.

It’s the second location for Stanford Grill, including the original spot in Columbia. Stanford Grill is a member of the Blueridge Restaurant Group, which also includes the Copper Canyon Grill , with three Maryland locations. The restaurant will be open Monday-Thursday from 11am to 10pm, Friday & Saturday from 11am to 11pm, and Sunday 10am-10pm, with brunch being served from 10am to 2pm. For more info & full menus, visit
