National! Margarita!! Day!!!

It was February 18th. 1:12pm. I was quietly minding my own business on a Thursday afternoon when my inbox received another urgent message. It’s a National Margarita Day recipe, and it’s the 7th one I received that day alone.

I had been stirred into action.

I knew then that I must share these recipes.

Brands blacked out to protect the innocent (?)

February 22nd is National Margarita Day! How do I know? Because in the past month, I’ve been sent 27 emails (plus 5 follow-ups!) for this very special annual event. As a booze journalist, whenever there’s a national/international/global/galactic drink holiday, my inbox gets flooded with similar barrages of messages. And considering there’s now a food or drink holiday for nearly every day of the year, it gets to be… a lot.

But I don’t hate the player, I hate the game. Wait, no, I play the game, I do write these stories often enough. So I don’t hate it. How about, well hey, that’s showbiz, baby. Hmm no… let’s go with, after your 7th NMD email in two and a half hours… it just be like that sometimes.

This year though, for National Margarita Day—notice the very important capital letters, this is one of the o.g.’s of food holidays, let’s show some respect—I’ve decided to take a different tack and publish each and every single recipe that was sent to me. I did not tweak any measurements, adjust the language of any instructions, or add any helpful hints. I did not change any names or streamline any lingo. I did not vet these for quality. I did not taste test them. I did not pick and choose from my favorite brands, or for that matter, my favorite publicists.

No, this is literally every National Margarita Day recipe I was sent, as they were sent, in the order they were sent. Newest up top, just like my clogged inbox, and divided into four categories:

  1. Margaritas.
  2. Drinks playing a bit fast & loose with what a “margarita” is.
  3. Drinks that are just… not in any way, shape or form margaritas.
  4. Things that aren’t even recipes.

Salud!

These Aren’t Even Recipes

These are mentions of margaritas that exist in the world.

Sometimes I find myself asking, does a bar make a margarita? I start to get worried.

But then when I learn about a bar that does make and serve margaritas, I begin to feel relief.

Oh and here’s other stuff and promotions that also aren’t margaritas. – Jake

They are not only representative of PATRÓN’s iconic history and notoriety in the tequila industry, but also reflect JonBoy’s personal style and signature handwriting. PATRÓN handcrafts its tequila using a time-honored process with meticulous detail, similar to how JonBoy handles each and every one of his tattoo designs for his clients. JonBoy was inspired to create designs that are both based in PATRÓN’s history and craft while bringing in his own style. Within the collection, there are nods to PATRÓN’s Mexican heritage through things like magueys and the tattoo world through designs like the praying hands.

Look at all these brands getting all this recognition! Somewhere, a few non-included tequila brands who brazenly opted not to pitch a National Margarita Day recipe gotta be wondering what in the hell their PR and marketing teams were up to.

Have a happy National Margarita Day 2021!
